Check engine + traction control
An engine fault can disable traction or stability control. Scan engine codes first before chasing the traction light alone.
ABS + brake warning
More serious than ABS alone. Check brake fluid level and pedal feel. Stop if braking feels weak or the pedal goes soft.
Battery + power steering
Low system voltage can affect electric power steering. Inspect the alternator, drive belt, and battery connections urgently.
Oil pressure + engine noise
Stop the engine immediately. Driving with low oil pressure and engine noise can cause severe damage.
Coolant temperature + steam
Pull over and shut off the engine. Let it cool before opening the coolant system.
Tyre pressure + steering pull
One tyre may be very low or damaged. Slow down and inspect all tyre pressures as soon as safe.
What to do first
- Note which lights are red vs amber.
- Check whether the car feels, sounds, or smells unusual.
- Address any red brake, oil, or temperature warnings before continuing.
- Scan for fault codes if you have access to OBD-II diagnostics.
