Check engine + traction control

An engine fault can disable traction or stability control. Scan engine codes first before chasing the traction light alone.

ABS + brake warning

More serious than ABS alone. Check brake fluid level and pedal feel. Stop if braking feels weak or the pedal goes soft.

Battery + power steering

Low system voltage can affect electric power steering. Inspect the alternator, drive belt, and battery connections urgently.

Oil pressure + engine noise

Stop the engine immediately. Driving with low oil pressure and engine noise can cause severe damage.

Coolant temperature + steam

Pull over and shut off the engine. Let it cool before opening the coolant system.

Tyre pressure + steering pull

One tyre may be very low or damaged. Slow down and inspect all tyre pressures as soon as safe.

What to do first

  1. Note which lights are red vs amber.
  2. Check whether the car feels, sounds, or smells unusual.
  3. Address any red brake, oil, or temperature warnings before continuing.
  4. Scan for fault codes if you have access to OBD-II diagnostics.
